THE 2001-2002 SEASON
New series including lawyer characters and legal dramas slated for the Fall 2001 season include Born in Brooklyn (a lawyer husband), Philly (a legal drama), First Monday (drama about the Supreme Court, its justices and its law clerks, stars Joe Mantegna and James Garner), The Guardian ( a lawyer takes a job as a child advocate after a drug conviction), Hudson County (a lawyer turns sleuth along with her husband), Fair Play (P.I. meets criminal defense lawyer), Law and Order: Criminal Intent (a Law and Order spinoff), Trial & Error (a Law & Order clone meets a First Years clone), and The Court (drama about the Supreme Court, its justices and its law clerks, but this one stars Sally Field). There are also the usual private investigator dramas; see Pazsaz Entertainment for more information, and something called Third Degree (Fox), about students studying criminal justice. Films with lawyer characters include Legally Blonde (Reese Witherspoon as a Harvard law school student intent on getting her boyfriend back) and the documentary Raw Deal: A Question of Consent (due out in fall 2001), an examination of a controversial rape case. The remake of 13 Ghosts (starring F. Murray Abraham) may have a lawyer in it also, since the original version did. Domestic Disturbance (2001) also looks law-related; at least it has a judge as a character.
Supreme Court dramas First Monday and The Court tanked shortly after their debuts, First Monday struggling through [] episodes and The Court vanishing after [].
Ally McBeal left Boston for New York on May 20, 2002 with her newly discovered daughter and all her neuroses in tow.
