RESEARCH IN LAW LINKS

Finding information on a particular subject efficiently is one of the most useful skills you can acquire as a lawyer. If you are using print sources remember to consult digests and indexes. If you are searching online on the Internet use a search engine, but be aware of some of the quirks that such engines have. If you are using a legal database such as WESTLAW or LEXIS know the differences between full text and descriptor searching. Be aware of the lists of approved words and terms in use in databases (such lists are often called thesauri). Realize that the results you get through full text and through descriptor, index or term searching may differ widely, whether you use manual (print) or electronic sources.
