Bell, Book and Candle (1958). Kim Novak is the beautiful witch who charms James Stewart. Also stars Hermione Gingold.

The Blair Witch Project (1999). Young researcher investigates supposed witches' haunts.

The Crucible (1996). Daniel Day-Lewis stars as John Proctor in this version of the Arthur Miller play.

I Married a Witch (1942). The descendant of a seventeenth century persecutor of witches falls in love with the ghost of one of his ancestor's victims, and she with him.  Believe it or not,   a comedy, starring Veronica Lake.

Matthew Hopkins, Witchfinder General (1968). Biopic about the real-life witchhunter of seventeenth century England who ended his career by being charged with the crime himself.

Practical Magic (1998). Faithful adaptation of Alice Hoffman's novel depicts the adventures of two sisters who accidentally do away with a suspected murderer.

Saint Joan (1957). The Otto Preminger version of George Bernard Shaw's play. Stars Jean Seberg, John Gielgud.

Saint Joan (TVM 1967).  Genevieve Bujold gives a charming and incisive performance in this version; Roddy McDowell is the timid Dauphin.

Les Sorcieres de Salem (1957). A French language version of Arthur Miller's play, starring Simone Signoret and Yves Montand, in the adaption by Jean-Paul Sartre. Remade in 1996 in English.

Three Sovereigns for Sarah (TVM 1985). Vanessa Redgrave and Patrick McGoohan star in a powerful retelling of the Salem Witch Trials and their aftermath.
